FAQs Track and Field

  • Our practices typically begin mid-March, with the first meet occurring at the beginning of April. The season will run through the beginning of June, with optional postseason events happening through July.

  • Our team utilizes the high school track for practices and we have to be flexible with the many high school teams that rightfully have priority over the track. Our team typically practices 2 evenings per week (usually 6:30-7:45pm) and once on a Saturday, however the days and times may vary depending on the high school team schedules. If there are changes to the schedule it will be updated in the Sports Engine App so it is a good idea to check it regularly.

  • Our meets include (in this order) 800m, 4x 100m relay, 100m, mile, 400m, and 200m. The long jump and shot put events are held throughout the meet. Athletes will work with their coaches to decide what events to participate in.

  • Our home meets are typically on Sundays at 1pm at Mount Olive High School, however our away meets may vary, due to the other team’s accessibility to their track. The app is the best way to access the schedule and location.

  • Track teaming is based on your child’s age on December 31st of that current year. If your child is 9 years old or older that year, she will run for the youth team. If they will not turn 9 by December 31st of the year (that is, she is still 8 by 12/31/year), she will be part of our clinic team.

  • All of the practices are scheduled at the track at Mount Olive High School. At times, we may hold our practice in the MO Dome or on the multipurpose baseball field if the track is in use by the high school.

  • The youth meets can last about 3-4 hours, depending on the number of athletes participating. We recommend that athletes bring a snack and plenty of water.

  • During the meets, parent volunteer timers and scorers are working together to gather the results for each athlete and team. Within a day or 2 after the meet, the times/scores will be posted on our website.

  • These are our two biggest and most competitive meets of the season. They include over 15 teams competing in several events. Our coaches will build the most competitive roster to represent our team, in each age/gender group. If your child is selected to compete, you will receive an invitation approx. 1-2 weeks before the event.

  • Yes. All athletes who are not invited to the Championship Meet are able to participate in the Open Meet. They can run in as many events as they would like in the Open Meet (it's a great opportunity to try something new). This meet is usually held the day before the Championship Meet.

  • No. Clinic Teams will have a different meet schedule (check the app) and will run against other local clinic teams. Their meets will include an 800m, 50m, 200m, and relay. Clinic athletes can choose to participate in as many events as they would like.

Post Season

If your child wishes, there are post season events each season. We follow the USATF events calendar. We will update our website and app each season to include the dates/locations of those events.
